En Kväll Med Luuk 1997
Kristian Luuk: This is a nice tie.
Per Gessle: Kristian, I´ve got to go to the hotel.
Kristian Luuk: Absolutely, and they have done some kind of special thing to help. You just have to put it in that thing. PER!!! I forgot to show you: here´s something for your coins. Perfect for the change...
Kristian Luuk: Hi hi, god evening and welcome. We´re going to introduce this show exactly as last week at this time. I´m still Luuk. Today, the expectant father and one of our biggest rock stars ever is coming over. His name is Per Gessle. He´s going to show he´s video for us. Exclusive, very interesting. En kväll med Luuk. I´m Luuk. It´s time for our first guest. The soloalbum The World According To Gessle will be released in a month, but you´re going to see his new video already. A big applause for one of Swedens richest men. Per Gessle.
Kristian Luuk: Hi.
Per Gessle: Hello.
Kristian Luuk: Sit down.
Per Gessle: Thank you.
Kristian Luuk: Welcome.
Per Gessle: Thank you.
Kristian Luuk: Nice to have you here. I´m a big fan.
Per Gessle: Glad to hear that.
Kristian Luuk: This is the first time you´re doing this on your own, for a very long time.
Per Gessle: Yes it is, I can´t choose coats so I often skip these talkshows.
Kristian Luuk: We were out in the box testing several coats. You used to be together with Marie, all the time.
Per Gessle: That´s true.
Kristian Luuk: She´s not here to help.
Per Gessle: I´m nervous.
Kristian Luuk: Are you nervous, really?
Per Gessle: No, not really.
Kristian Luuk: Why are you going solo?
Per Gessle: It´s got to do with Marie who´s got baby. And she wanted to rest for a while. Then it suits me to do a solo record.
Kristian Luuk: It will be out in a month and we´re going to see that video later at the end of the show. I asked you to bring some important records. I have them here.
Per Gessle: I almost took my whole collection.
Kristian Luuk: Yes, the rest is out in the box. I´m going to put this grammophone here. Take them out. We´ve got this beautiful grammophone here.
Per Gessle: I´ve got one too. I´ve got a Scandic and you´ve got a Philips.
Kristian Luuk: They are good, all of them, the only problem is that this one has got a 15 grams pick up.
Per Gessle: I was thinking about that.
Kristian Luuk: Your records are going to be ruined. But i doesn´t do any harm no any poor person.
Kristian Luuk: Let´s see what we have.
Per Gessle: I´ve chosen records that should be in every mans recordcollection.
Kristian Luuk: What is that?
Per Gessle: It was hard to bring all of them. It´s neverending.
Kristian Luuk: What´s the first one?
Per Gessle: I´ve chosen this one because people are talking so much about this "swedish popwonder". That´s good, but there were good music already in the sixties. For example this one with Tages.
Kristian Luuk: "Every Rain Means A Lot".
Per Gessle: You´ve got to play this one.
Kristian Luuk: It´s like soul, isn´t it?. He´s got a nice voice.
Per Gessle: I´ve written number 18 here. It was my 18th record.
Kristian Luuk: Show it in that camera.
Per Gessle: Here it comes. Here´s my old phonenumber.
Kristian Luuk: Really?
Per Gessle: Wow. Brilliant.
Kristian Luuk: Who´s singing?
Per Gessle: Tommy Blom. Göran Lagerberg does the refrain.
Kristian Luuk: When did you buy this one?
Per Gessle: 1966-67.
Kristian Luuk: You´ve written number 18 here, why?
Per Gessle: It was the 18th record in my "singlebook".
Kristian Luuk: It´s like soul.
Per Gessle: Yes.
Kristian Luuk: Thank you, Tages. That´s John Holm isn´t it?
Per Gessle: Yes.
Kristian Luuk: That´s nice. You did a cover on your first solo-LP.
Per Gessle: Yes. "Den Öde Stranden". We played it with Gyllene Tider this summer.
Kristian Luuk: Who´s John Holm?
Per Gessle: One of the best Swedish singers and writers ever. This one is from 1972. It´s his debute-LP. He lives in the US now.
Kristian Luuk: He´s done many records.
Per Gessle: Yes, three or four.
Kristian Luuk: Listen, he sounds like you, in Gyllene Tider I mean.
Per Gessle: No, I sound like him. When I started singing in Gyllene Tider it was because noone else wanted to sing.
Kristian Luuk: Really?
Per Gessle: And I got quite a good selfconfidence because of John Holm. I thought it sounded almost the same. So that´s why I dared to sing. So John Holm is great.
Kristian Luuk: It´s fun that you´ve brought some Swedish records.
Per Gessle: Did you notice that this one doesn´t sound as good on this grammophone as the records from the sixties?
Kristian Luuk: No, that´s right. And they sound even better on CD. There´s no crackling on them.
Per Gessle: Crackling is nice.
Kristian Luuk: Beatles, of course.
Per Gessle: Yes, I thought...my favourite Beatlestrack is actually on this one. That´s the last song on this record.
Kristian Luuk: Really, why´s that your favourite? What´s it called?
Per Gessle: Dizzy Miss Lizzy. It was the B-side of the Yesterday-single which is the most overrated song in the world. But Dizzy Miss Lizzy, the B-side is great.
Kristian Luuk: A little bit faster than Yesterday.
Per Gessle: A little bit - yes. Really good. Sounds like it's made for a grammophone like this.
Kristian Luuk: Per has written "Per Gessle" on the back so that you know who's the records is.
Per Gessle: That was important when you had parties.
Kristian Luuk: Really. Someone could say: "Oh, where did this come from, it's Per Gessle's".
Per Gessle: I'm sure that happened. I could play that song on my own very early. And that's the level I'm still at.
Kristian Luuk: Show this one with the garage-people that inspires everyone to be a rockstar.
Per Gessle: This is also a really good LP. Teenage Heads with Flaming Groovies. We could play it if you want.
Kristian Luuk: No.
Per Gessle: OK. If you're 12 or 13 like I was when this one was released, it's obvious you want to be a pop- or rockstar and not an architect or a doctor. This is just so right.
Kristian Luuk: Some inspiration. That was the last one.
Per Gessle: Yes.
Kristian Luuk: I have a lot of other questions for you.
Per Gessle: I've got this one too.
Kristian Luuk: Which one? Oh this is great. You've got to show it. You've written something here...
Per Gessle: Yes "Sunny Girl". I liked that song. And here's Svenne, Lennart, Benny and Janne.
Kristian Luuk: Benny is "ABBA-Benny".
Per Gessle: This is an underated livealbum recorded in Trollhättan and Västerås, with Hep Stars.
Kristian Luuk: That's so typical you...to have lists over all the records.
Per Gessle: Yes. I did that before but not anymore.
Kristian Luuk: You've got too many. Have you counted them?
Per Gessle: No. I have sold lots of vinyl records. I haven´t listened to them. Maybe it´s 1000.
Kristian Luuk: You´re one of Swedens richest men. How do you feel about that? You were at my place for a cup of coffee and you told me about how you live. Can you do that again? It two floors in the same flat on Strandvägen.
Per Gessle: Yes, you could say that I live on one floor and work on the other.
Kristian Luuk: OK, one attic and another...
Per Gessle: Yes, it´s two different floors.
Kristian Luuk: How much money is that worth?
Per Gessle: I don´t know. I´m not a broker!
Kristian Luuk: When was the last time you flew in a helicopter?
Per Gessle: This summer with Gyllene Tider.
Kristian Luuk: No, you told me it was when you were to some Formula 1 race.
Per Gessle: Yes, that´s right.
Kristian Luuk: Why did you fly in a helicopter?
Per Gessle: It´s fast.
Kristian Luuk: It´s quite a special life you are living. Sometimes I wonder if you ever long for anything. I mean you can buy everything. When I was a student it was something really special to go somewhere by taxi. If I want a pare of sunglasses, you can buy them all.
Per Gessle: What would that be good for?
Kristian Luuk: Do you still long for anything?
Per Gessle: Yes, I´m going to be a father.
Kristian Luuk: Yes, I was going to mention that.
Per Gessle: You didn´t know that, did you?
Kristian Luuk: It was in the newspapers. The funny thing is that both Per and myself are going to be fathers in September.
Per Gessle: Same mother.
Kristian Luuk: No. When did you find out that you were going to be a dad?
Per Gessle: I read it in Aftonbladet. No, it was sometime around Christmas.
Kristian Luuk: Did you look at the test?
Per Gessle: No, my wife dragged me out of the bed.
Kristian Luuk: Have you been to the hospital yet?
Per Gessle: No.
Kristian Luuk: You haven´t. There´s a fourmonths-check soon.
Per Gessle: Really? Have you been there?
Kristian Luuk: No, not yet. But I´ve been there once. An old lady asked us what we thought about drugs! Have you noticed that people react very different when you tell them that you´re going to be a father? Girls become happier about it than the guys.
Per Gessle: No, I mean before the child is born, the father feels that he´s just wathcing from the outside.
Kristian Luuk: I´m going to give you a gift. Here´s a good book "Du ska bli pappa". It´s the only book on the subject written in Swedish. I´m going to sign it for you. Read it.
Per Gessle: Thank you.
Kristian Luuk: Will you be there, when the child is born?
Per Gessle: Yes, I think so.
Kristian Luuk: "The angry-game". We look at each other, the one who laughs first will loose. Don´t miss the video!!!
